The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the murder of Inqilab Moncho leader Osman Hadi, along with his associate Alamgir Hossain.

According to an ANI report and the STF’s official media statement released on Sunday (8 March), the two were intercepted in the early hours in Bongaon, close to the India-Bangladesh border.

Interrogation revealed that the suspects had illegally entered India through the Meghalaya border after committing the murder and related extortion in Bangladesh. The STF stated that the pair were sheltering near the border and planning to cross back into Bangladesh when they were apprehended.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation into Hadi’s killing, which occurred in Dhaka on 12 December last year. Hadi’s death triggered widespread unrest across Bangladesh and prompted a national day of mourning, with the government arranging his treatment in Singapore in an attempt to save his life.

Both suspects are now in custody, and further questioning is ongoing.
