BNP Leader Shot in Dhaka

A local BNP leader, Shafiqur Rahman (55), was shot and seriously injured by unidentified assailants in Dhaka’s Kolabagan area. The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Sunday (22 February) in front of a shoe market opposite Bashundhara Shopping Complex.

Shafiqur Rahman was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors said his condition is now out of danger. He was hit by a bullet in the palm of his left hand, which reportedly passed through.

According to Shafiqur Rahman and shoe shop owner Monir Hossain, who helped take him to the hospital, Shafiqur is the former joint general secretary of Ward No. 16, Kolabagan Thana BNP. He also supplies shoes to footpath vendors in the area.

DMCH Police Camp in-charge Md. Faruk, quoting doctors, said Shafiqur is receiving treatment in the emergency department. He has a gunshot wound in the palm of his left hand. Kolabagan Police Station is investigating the incident.
