Bangladesh Army High-Rank Reshuffle
New Chief of General Staff, PSO, DGFI DG Appointed
The Bangladesh Army has undergone a major reshuffle at the senior level with several key appointments and transfers announced recently.
Lieutenant General Mainur Rahman, previously General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC), has been appointed as the new Chief of General Staff (CGS). He replaces Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim, who has recently retired.
Major General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, GOC of the 24 Infantry Division in Chattogram, has been promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed as Principal Staff Officer (PSO) at the Armed Forces Division. The previous PSO, Lieutenant General S.M. Kamrul Hasan, has been transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for assignment as an ambassador.
Brigadier General Mohammad Kaiser Rashid Chowdhury has been promoted to Major General and appointed as the new Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). He is being moved from Army Headquarters to DGFI Headquarters. The current DGFI DG, Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam, has also been transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Brigadier General Md. Hafizur Rahman, currently serving as Defence Adviser at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, has been promoted to Major General and appointed as GOC of the 55 Infantry Division in Jashore. The previous GOC of 55 Infantry Division, Major General J.M. Imdadul Islam, has been transferred as Commandant of East Bengal Regimental Centre. The current Commandant, Major General Ferdous Hasan, has been posted as GOC of the 24 Infantry Division.
These changes reflect a significant restructuring at the top echelons of the Bangladesh Army amid the ongoing political transition and new government formation.
