Two Jamaat Leaders Arrested in Kushtia Over Election Violence Case
Police in Nandigram, Kushtia, have arrested two local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in connection with an election violence case. The arrests were made during an operation in the Nandigram municipal area on Saturday (21 February) afternoon.
The arrested individuals are ATM Mujahid, Secretary of Baytulmal for Nandigram Municipal Jamaat, and Rakibul Islam, Youth and Sports Secretary of Nandigram Upazila Jamaat.
According to police and the case statement, the incident occurred on the night of 10 February in Parshan village of the upazila. In the attack, Masud Rana Majid, President of Thaltta Majgram Union BNP, was seriously injured. One of his eyes was permanently damaged in the assault. Masud Rana Majid filed a case at Nandigram Police Station naming 35 individuals, including Mujahid and Rakibul, as accused.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nandigram Police Station Mizanur Rahman confirmed the arrests. He said the accused had been absconding since the case was filed. Acting on secret information, police conducted the operation and arrested them. Efforts to apprehend the remaining accused continue.
