Powerful bomb blast in dawn claims one life in Shariatpur

A powerful bomb exploded in the early hours in Jazira upazila of Shariatpur district. The explosion completely destroyed a residential house. In the incident, a youth named Sohan lost his life. Police said the deceased’s body was mutilated in the blast.

The horrific incident occurred around 4 am on Thursday (January 8) in Mulai Bepari Kandi village of Bilaspur union in the upazila. The deceased Sohan was a resident of the same area.

Confirming the incident, Jazira Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md Abdus Salam told The Daily Campus that the area suddenly shook with a deafening sound in the dawn. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the noise and found one house completely devastated with the body of a youth lying some distance away. The intensity of the explosion was so severe that the entire house was blown away.

He said the area had already been under strict police surveillance. Upon receiving the news of the blast, police and specialised teams reached the spot quickly. Currently, multiple teams including police special unit are collecting evidence and carrying out investigation.

The OC (Investigation) further said whether bombs were being manufactured there or had been stockpiled earlier is being examined. In the preliminary search, several items used for making bombs have been recovered from the scene. However, detailed information can be confirmed only after the investigation is completed.
