Four Lives Lost in Early Morning Truck Accident
Four people were killed on the spot this morning when a sand-laden truck lost control and ran over pedestrians and traders amid thick fog in Jhalamlia Bazar's Kolahata area of Puthia upazila in Rajshahi.
The tragic accident took place around 8:00 am today, Thursday, on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway at Kolahata in Jhalamlia Bazar.
According to Paba Highway Police outpost sources, dense fog reduced visibility on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway this morning. In the Kolahata area of Jhalamlia Bazar, the sand-laden truck lost control due to poor visibility and crushed several people on the roadside. Four individuals died instantly under the truck. The names and identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately. Police are now working to identify them.
Eyewitnesses said the fog was so thick in the morning that nothing ahead could be seen clearly. Suddenly, a speeding sand-laden truck entered the market and created the horrific scene.
Ershad Ali, a banana trader, said: “Today was the weekly market day in Jhalamlia, so traders had been busy buying and selling bananas since early morning. Before anyone could react, the truck ran over several people and overturned after losing control. Due to the dense fog, the driver probably could not see the people in front.”
