Two Indian nationals have been arrested in Meghalaya, India, for allegedly assisting Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, 37, the prime suspect in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson martyr Sharif Osman Hadi — in fleeing across the border after the killing.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SM Nazrul Islam has said the murder of Inqilab Moncho leader martyr Sharif Osman Hadi was a pre-planned act. Due to this premeditation, the accused were able to cross the border before being identified. Two Indians who allegedly assisted them have been arrested by local police in Meghalaya.

The Additional Commissioner said: “Based on statements from those present, CCTV footage, open-source intelligence, and information technology assistance, the shooter Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud alias Rahul and his motorcycle driver accomplice Mohammad Alamgir Sheikh were identified on the very day of the incident.”

He further informed that analysis of investigation findings, reports from various intelligence agencies, and statements from arrested persons reveals that Faisal and Alamgir travelled from the crime scene to Aminbazar in Dhaka by CNG, then reached Kalampur in Manikganj. From there, as per prior planning, they proceeded to Haluaghat in Mymensingh in a private car.

He said that through informal channels, communication with Meghalaya Police revealed that Putti and her husband have been arrested. The police suspect the accused crossed the border through an illegal route.

Faisal Karim Masud (37) emerged as the prime accused identified as one of the key shooters. Reports of his arrest in Kolkata first surfaced on Sunday, but no official confirmation has come from Bangladeshi or Indian authorities yet. The latest development — the arrest of two Indians in Meghalaya for aiding his escape — adds a major cross-border dimension to the high-profile case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held a press conference on Sunday (28 December 2025) to brief the media on the latest developments in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson martyr Sharif Osman Hadi.
During the briefing, senior DMP officials confirmed that the information about the arrest of 2 Indian nationals in Meghalaya came directly from Meghalaya Police.

The Additional Commissioner added that before reaching Haluaghat, Philip and Sanjay were waiting for them at a petrol station to receive them. Philip escorted them across the border to a person named Putti in Meghalaya, India. Putti then handed them over to the husband of a taxi driver, who took them to a town named Pura in Meghalaya.

The police emphasised that the matter is being pursued with full coordination at the highest levels and that every effort is being made to ensure complete justice in the case.

The case continues to generate intense public interest and anger. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses on both sides of the border.
