Identity of woman detained in shooting of NCP leader revealed
A woman has been detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of Khulna Metropolitan Police in connection with the shooting of Motalib Shikder, leader of National Citizen Party (NCP) workers' organisation National Workers Force. She was detained last night on Monday (22 December), Khulna Metropolitan DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taimur Hossain informed media.
The detained woman has been identified as Tanima alias Tanvi. Although police have not provided details about her identity, multiple local sources said Tanima is joint member-secretary of Khulna district branch of Yuboshakti. On 4 October last, convener Advocate Md. Tariqul Islam and member-secretary Dr. Jahedul Islam approved Khulna district committee of National Yuboshakti. In the committee, Tanima got the position of No. 1 joint member-secretary.
Regarding the detention, Khulna Metropolitan DB OC Taimur Hossain told media that for investigation interest, details cannot be provided now. Senior officers are interrogating the detained woman. After verifying obtained information and completing necessary legal actions, details will be provided.
Earlier, around 11:45 am on Monday (22 December), miscreants shot Md. Motalib Shikder (42), central organiser of NCP workers' organisation, inside a house in Sabujbag area of Sonadanga in the city.
From police and local sources, it is learnt that signs of drugs and woman were found at the shooting spot. The house was rented by Tanvi and an unknown youth posing as husband-wife in November last. NCP Workers Force central organiser Motalib Shikder regularly visited that house. Immediately after the incident, house tenant Tanvi and her husband went into hiding.
In this regard, Sonadanga police station Inspector (Investigation) Animesh Mandal had said miscreants shot a person named Motalib, locals first took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Later, he was taken to City Diagnostic Centre for CT scan of head. He was shot inside a house behind Gazi Medical College Hospital in Sonadanga area of the city. Investigation is ongoing in this incident.
