Govt announces Tk 50 lakh reward for information leading to Osman Hadi attackers
The interim government has announced a Tk 50 lakh reward for anyone providing information that leads to the arrest of those involved in the shooting of independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency and Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury made the announcement to reporters after a meeting of the law and order core committee at the Secretariat on Saturday (13 December).
He said routine discussions were held alongside preparations for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, special security for frontline July uprising fighters including Osman Hadi, and recovery of looted and illegal arms.
The interim government expressed deep regret over the attack on Hadi, viewing it with utmost seriousness.
"No delay will be tolerated in arresting those involved. Law enforcers have been directed to apprehend them in the shortest possible time. We hope to arrest the culprits very soon. No one involved will be spared," the adviser said, expressing confidence in public cooperation.
He described the attack as an attempt to disrupt the national election: "Any effort to obstruct or derail the parliamentary election will be suppressed firmly by the interim government."
Special security measures are being taken for frontline July fighters, he added.
On arms recovery, he said "Operation Devil Hunt Phase Two" will be launched immediately to suppress fascist terrorism and intensify drives against illegal weapons.
Regarding arms licences, he said: "Previously, only government officials received licences. Now candidates participating in the election who apply will also be granted licences. Seized arms belonging to candidates will be returned through due process."
Urging prayers for Hadi's recovery, the adviser said: "His condition is extremely critical. Everyone, regardless of religion, should pray for him. With Allah's will and everyone's prayers, Osman Hadi will return to us healthy."
Hadi was shot on Friday (12 December) afternoon during campaigning in Bijoynagar, Paltan. He remains in critical condition at Evercare Hospital. Police have identified suspects and raids are ongoing.
