The attack took place after Jummah prayers on Friday (12 December) in Bijoynagar's Box Culvert area during campaigning. Motorcycle-borne assailants fired at Hadi and fled. He was rushed to DMCH in critical condition and later transferred to Evercare Hospital.
CCTV footage shows gunshots around 2:20 pm, with two youths fleeing on a motorcycle shortly after.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus termed the attack "one of the most alarming incidents" during the interim government's tenure, calling it a "planned assault on Bangladesh's democratic journey" by "defeated forces".
DMP had earlier strongly condemned the "reprehensible and cowardly" attack.
Hadi remains in critical condition. Investigation continues.
