Shah Rukh Khan Buys a Whole Cricket Stadium in LA
In a historic milestone for the global expansion of cricket, the Knight Riders Group has officially unveiled its brand-new international-standard stadium, the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, in Los Angeles, USA.
The stadium officially commenced its journey on Wednesday (July 1) by playing host to its inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) fixture between the home team, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Washington Freedom. Former NBA champion Metta World Peace bowled the ceremonial first ball of the match, symbolizing the growing connection between cricket and mainstream American sports.
With this purpose-built venue at Fairplex Pomona, the Knight Riders have become the first global cricket franchise brand to establish and operate an international-standard cricket stadium outside its home country.
Celebrating the landmark occasion, Bollywood megastar and Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan expressed his immense gratitude to key administrators for helping turn a long-cherished dream into reality. In a social media post, Khan explicitly acknowledged the institutional backing that facilitated the project, offering a special note of appreciation to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and Sanjog Gupta.

"What started as a dream turns into reality today," Shah Rukh Khan said. "A place built not just for sports but also entertainment and for families and memories that last forever. This is for LA, for cricket fans across the globe, and for the Knight Riders family."
An Elite Facility
Built strictly to elite international dimensions, the stadium features an expansive main square with eight natural turf wickets and six massive 120-foot floodlight towers for night broadcasts. The construction of the arena required moving over 32,000 metric tonnes of earth.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Sports, underlined that the facility serves as a definitive statement of intent for the game's future in the United States. The venue is scheduled to host a blockbuster week of MLC matches from July 1 to July 5, anchoring Southern California as a premier cricketing hub ahead of the sport's highly anticipated inclusion in the LA28 Olympic Games.

Although the home side endured a six-wicket defeat against a disciplined Washington Freedom unit in the opening encounter, the structural foundation promises long-term dividends for the sport in America.
Currently, the Knight Riders Group operates four global franchises: Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL), Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20), and Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), boasting a combined tally of nine major championship titles.
