‘BCB is Now Baper Doya Cricket Board’: Hasnat Abdullah in Parliament
Jatiya Sangsad member Hasnat Abdullah from Cumilla-4 and chief organiser of the southern region of the National Citizen Party (NCP) has sharply criticised the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), saying it is no longer the Bangladesh Cricket Board but has turned into the “Baper Doya Cricket Board” (Father’s Blessing Cricket Board).
He made the remark on Wednesday (8 April) while raising a point of order during the discussion on the July Mass Uprising Protection and Accountability Bill-2026.
Hasnat Abdullah alleged that institutions like Bangladesh Bank and the BCB have been blatantly politicised and turned into family-controlled entities.
He further said, “In the past, the Human Rights Commission was used as a tool to suppress opposition voices. It was used to legitimise enforced disappearances and killings and for victim-blaming.”
The lawmaker demanded that the National Human Rights Commission must be made fully autonomous. “If this commission is kept under any ministry and given the responsibility to investigate the July Mass Uprising, its neutrality will be seriously questioned,” he added.
