Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, President and CEO of Telenor Group, met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today during her visit to Bangladesh.

The meeting focused on strengthening Telenor’s long-term partnership with Bangladesh and supporting the country’s digital transformation journey.

The Telenor delegation included Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone, and other senior representatives from Telenor and Grameenphone.

During the discussion, Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer highlighted Telenor’s nearly three-decade presence in Bangladesh. She expressed strong confidence in the country’s digital future, citing its young population, rapid digital adoption, and growing innovation ecosystem.

The CEO reaffirmed Telenor’s commitment to expanding connectivity, promoting digital inclusion, and investing in skills development — particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI) — to support Bangladesh’s ambition of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2034.

Both sides emphasised the need for a predictable, investment-friendly regulatory environment to accelerate sustainable digital growth and maximise the benefits of connectivity for society.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing satisfaction over the positive trajectory of cooperation and a shared vision for building a safer and smarter digital future for Bangladesh.
