Past HSC Results Had Flaws: Inter-Education Board Chairman

Professor Dr. Khandaker Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, stated, “After SSC, we’ve now announced the HSC results. No one was instructed to inflate pass rates artificially. There’s no need for such thinking. The government’s directive was clear: everything must follow regulations.”
Commenting on irregularities in past results, he said, “It’s evident from this year’s results that previous ones had flaws. There’s no need to award marks like 1 or 2 for incorrect answers. Everyone agreed on this, and they’re pleased. Examiners, without board directives, are delighted. They got to evaluate quality answer scripts. We extended the evaluation time, allowing them to send marks thoroughly, and we compiled the results.”
The 2025 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exam results were announced today at 10:00am across 11 education boards. The overall pass rate is 58.83%, down from 77.78% in 2024. Last year, 1,388 institutions achieved a 100% pass rate, while this year, it dropped to 345, a decrease of 1,013. Girls outperformed boys, with 59,232 more girls passing and 4,991 more achieving GPA-5 across all boards. In the nine general boards, 87,814 more girls passed, and 5,097 more secured GPA-5. In 2024, 1,45,911 students achieved GPA-5, compared to 69,097 in 2025, a drop of 76,814. Zero-pass institutions rose from 65 in 2024 to 202 in 2025. Total institutions increased by 205, and centres by 105.
Officials attribute the results to initiatives by the Education Ministry, positive teacher-student classroom interactions, technology-driven teaching, growing parental awareness and cooperation, and the smooth, peaceful conduct of exams.
