The Education Ministry has recommended increasing the house rent allowance for MPO-listed private school teachers by Tk 1,000 and the medical allowance by Tk 500, totaling a Tk 1,500 boost. However, protesting teachers argue for a percentage-based increase to ensure equitable benefits across all ranks, as reported by The Daily Campus on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Delawar Hossain Azizi, member secretary of the MPO-Listed Education Nationalization Aspirants’ Alliance, said, “We’ve demanded a 20% increase in house rent allowance. We’ll submit calculations to the ministry next week and push for swift implementation.” Currently, teachers receive Tk 1,000 for house rent and Tk 500 for medical expenses, deemed insufficient. A 20% hike would raise junior teachers’ house rent allowance by Tk 1,900, totaling about Tk 3,000, and assistant teachers’ by Tk 2,550, reaching roughly Tk 3,500, with other ranks benefiting per their pay grades.

Teachers argue that a percentage-based increase, unlike a fixed amount, would scale with salary hikes, ensuring long-term fairness in today’s economic climate. Md. Rashed Mosharraf, a member of the alliance, told The Daily Campus, “Since independence, teachers have faced discrimination. We won’t accept it anymore. House rent must increase by percentage, or we’ll resume protests.”

The alliance plans to submit detailed calculations to the ministry soon, warning that a fixed increase risks stagnation, as future adjustments are unlikely.
