Students Who Failed More Than Two Subjects Ineligible for HSC Supplementary Exams
Students who failed in 2024 and 2025 will also get an opportunity, provided they participated in or registered for the 2026 examinations. The supplementary examinations are tentatively scheduled to begin on December 2, with results expected by December 31.
Students who failed more than two subjects will not be eligible to sit for the upcoming HSC supplementary examinations, while candidates from previous years who failed and meet the registration requirements will also get an opportunity.
The decision comes after a sharp decline in this year's HSC results, with the education boards planning to hold supplementary examinations within a month of publishing the results. According to the preliminary schedule, the examinations will begin on December 2, and results will be published by December 31.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, said on Tuesday afternoon (November 3) that the dates for the supplementary examinations had been finalised.
He said the education board would issue a notice on Wednesday (November 4), providing detailed information about the examinations.
He also clarified that students who failed more than two subjects would not be eligible. However, candidates who failed in 2024 or 2025 can sit for the supplementary examinations, provided they participated in or registered for the 2026 examinations. This means candidates who failed for two or three consecutive years may also get the opportunity to take the supplementary examinations.
A source said the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee had proposed beginning the form-filling process in the first week of November, with the deadline set for November 8. Under the proposed schedule, question-setting would continue from November 1 to November 20.
Earlier, at the HSC results publication ceremony on October 31, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced plans to arrange supplementary examinations for students who failed in one or two subjects.
He said the initiative was being taken to prevent students from losing an entire academic year because of failure in a limited number of subjects.
This year, a total of 1,240,798 students appeared in the HSC and equivalent examinations under 11 education boards. Of them, 646,685 passed, while 594,113 failed.
