Former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal detained ahead of protest
Former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was detained by Delhi Police on Saturday before he could join a protest called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
After being detained, Kejriwal said, “The country's young people have awakened.”
On Friday (October 9), Kejriwal had said that he and his family members would take part in the protest. He also urged young people to join the demonstration demanding Kumar's resignation.
Earlier on Saturday morning, following the detention of CJP leaders, Kejriwal criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the detention of “cockroaches on an aeroplane” reflected the prime minister's fear.
He also criticised the security measures imposed in central Delhi to prevent the protest, describing the situation as “worse than the Emergency”.
