A powerful explosion at a Valero oil refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, has triggered an emergency evacuation order for nearby residents. The blast, which occurred on Monday, was so intense that city authorities instructed all those living in the vicinity of the facility to seek safe shelter immediately, according to a report by AFP.

Port Arthur’s emergency services department issued a statement following the incident, urging residents in all areas adjacent to the Valero refinery to relocate as quickly as possible. The city is located approximately 90 miles east of Houston and is a critical hub for the American energy sector.

In a separate statement, Valero Energy Corporation confirmed that all refinery personnel have been accounted for and no employees are missing. The company emphasized that the safety of its workers remains its highest priority as they manage the aftermath of the event.

Local media footage captured massive plumes of thick black smoke rising from the site as fires continued to burn within the complex. Residents reported hearing a deafening blast that shattered windows in several nearby homes.

According to Valero’s official website, the Port Arthur refinery employs approximately 800 people and has a massive processing capacity of 435,000 barrels of oil per day. The facility is a major producer of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.
