Dhaka University Plans Vibrant Programmes for University Day Celebration

On July 1, 1921, Dhaka University (DU), the first institution of higher education in the Bangladesh region, commenced its academic journey. This milestone is celebrated annually as Dhaka University Day. Continuing the tradition, the university administration has planned a grand celebration for July 1 this year, with the theme “Dhaka University in Building a Discrimination-Free and Inclusive Society.”
On Tuesday (20 May), a meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan was held at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor’s office. The meeting finalized a series of programmes to mark the occasion.
According to the decisions, the celebrations will begin on July 1 at 9:30 am with a gathering of teachers, students, officers, and staff at Smriti Chirantan Chattar near the Vice-Chancellor’s Bhaban. At 9:45 am, a vibrant procession led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan will commence, concluding at Paira Chattar in front of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC). At 10:00 am, the national flag, the Dhaka University flag, and the flags of various halls will be hoisted at Paira Chattar, accompanied by performances of the national anthem, the Dhaka University theme song, and the inaugural song.
At 10:30 am, a discussion session titled “Dhaka University in Building a Discrimination-Free and Inclusive Society” will be held at the TSC Auditorium, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan.
To commemorate the day, a special souvenir publication will be released. Additionally, decorative arches will be constructed at the university’s main entrances, and key buildings and structures will be adorned with illuminations.
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Acting Registrar Munshi Shamsuddin Ahmmad, deans of various faculties, provosts of halls, members of the Senate and Syndicate, department chairpersons, and heads of administrative offices.
