Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has decided to introduce an admission test for enrollment in all government polytechnic institutes starting from the 2025-26 academic year. The board indicated that, if all goes as planned, the admission test is likely to be held in July.

According to BTEB sources, the admission test will carry a total of 100 marks. Of this, 70 marks will be allocated to a multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam, while the remaining 30 marks will be based on the candidate’s academic performance. The board stated that this system will facilitate the selection of meritorious and motivated students.

The MCQ section will cover five subjects: Bangla and English will each account for 10 marks, totaling 20 marks; Physics and Chemistry will together contribute 20 marks; Mathematics will carry 20 marks; and an aptitude test, designed to assess analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and logical thinking, will be worth 10 marks.

Commenting on the initiative, BTEB’s Director (Curriculum), Engineer Md. Anwarul Kabir, said, “There is no alternative to an admission test to enhance the quality of technical education and select interested and qualified students. By choosing prepared candidates through this process, the standard of education will improve further. If everything proceeds as planned, the admission test for the 2025-26 academic year is expected to take place in July.”

He added, “Steps have been taken to communicate the admission test guidelines to students through various channels, ensuring that interested candidates can prepare in a timely manner.”
