International Students of Sylhet Agricultural University Make Their Mark in Home Countries: Vice-Chancellor

Professor Dr. Md. Alimul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), described the institution as a modern hub of agricultural education, research, and extension, nestled within a scenic, green campus surrounded by gentle hills. Alongside local students, the university has increasingly become a preferred destination for international students, who, after completing their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, are excelling in their respective professional fields back home.
Dr. Islam made these remarks on Friday, May 16, during a certificate awarding ceremony for 12 Nepali graduates. Following the presentation of certificates, the Vice-Chancellor urged the students to maintain focus and dedication in their academic pursuits. He also highlighted the importance of nurturing skills beyond academics, encouraging excellence in literature, culture, and sports.
The 12 graduating Nepali students were from the 2018–19 academic session—Surya Kumar Yadav, Suraj Saha, Debraj Chowdhury, Dharm Narayan Yadav, Asmita Rai, and Roz Kamal Chowdhury—and from the 2019–20 session—Ankit Rugung, Reshma Thapa, Bishnu Sahi, Madhav Koirala, Niraj Bohra, and Hirajan Hamal.
In 2019, six Nepali students admitted in the 2018–19 academic year to the Faculty of Veterinary, Animal, and Biomedical Sciences completed 189 credits to earn their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees. Similarly, in 2020, six Nepali students admitted in the 2019–20 academic year to the Faculty of Agriculture completed 190 credits to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.
The certificate distribution ceremony was also attended by prominent university officials including Treasurer Professor Dr. A T M Mahbub I Ilahi, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Asad Uddoula, Additional Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office Professor Dr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Additional Registrar Mohammad Golam Rasul, and Director of Public Relations and Publications Khusru Mohammad Salahuddin, among others.
