NSU Hosts Special Lecture on The July Charter

North South University’s (NSU) Department of History and Philosophy organized a special lecture titled “The July Charter: Understanding the Political Reforms from a Comparative Perspective” today at the NSU Syndicate Hall.
Dr. Sumit Bisarya, Head of Mission and Constitution Building Program at International IDEA, The Hague, Netherlands, was the keynote speaker. Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer & Pro-Vice Chancellor (In-Charge), NSU, attended as the special guest. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Professor & Chair, Department of History & Philosophy, NSU, served as moderator. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam, Professor of Law & Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, NSU, was also present.
Dr. Bisarya discussed the global evolution of constitutions, praised Bangladesh’s students as catalysts for political change, and analyzed the July Charter comparatively. He remarked, “The July Charter is a remarkable achievement, given the number of parties that signed it. But much remains to be done in terms of implementation.”
Professor Abdur Rob Khan delivered closing remarks, stating, “I thank the Department of History and Philosophy for organizing this event and all participants for their lively engagement. This session was timely, and our speaker delivered a very relevant lecture.”
Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam said, “The success of a constitution depends on stable politics and social factors. It is not just a legal document, but much more. Hopefully, the constitution will uphold our cherished values and bring tangible progress to our country.”
Dr. Mahbubur Rahman added, “The July Charter is a positive development in Bangladesh, but its effectiveness will depend on future implementation.”
