Drivers Union Proposes 1:4 Ratio, New Pay Ranges in Pay Commission Memo

The Bangladesh Government Drivers Association has urged the National Pay Commission to adopt a 1:4 salary ratio and introduce risk allowance for drivers in the new pay structure. Leaders presented these and other proposals during a consultation at the Secretariat this morning, Sunday (October 26).
They demanded merging grades and setting specific ranges:
- 1st Grade: Tk78,000 to Tk1,40,000
- 2nd Grade: Tk66,000 to Tk1,25,000
- Merge 6th & 7th into 6th Grade at Tk75,000
- Merge 8th & 9th into 7th Grade at Tk70,000
- Merge 11th, 12th & 13th into 9th Grade at Tk60,000
- Merge 14th, 15th & 16th into 10th Grade at Tk50,000
The group highlighted driving's hazards yet lack of risk pay. Pre-2015 8th Pay Scale, light-license drivers started at 16th grade, upgradable to 15th with heavy license via BRTA exam. Post-2015, the post became "blocked," barring time scale or selection grade promotions. They seek reinstatement for all blocked posts, including heavy license upgrades.
Citing Bangladesh's higher per capita income than neighbours India and Pakistan, they stressed reducing grades from 20 to 12 with 1:4 ratio to end disparities. They also called for updating house rent, medical, education, transport, tiffin, and laundry allowances to current needs.
