‘Tin Goyenda’ Creator Rakib Hasan Passes Away

Rakib Hasan, the beloved author behind Bangladesh’s iconic teenage detective series "Tin Goyenda," passed away at the age of 74. He succumbed to cardiac arrest during dialysis at a hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday, as confirmed by Sheba Prokashoni advisor Masuma Maymun in a Facebook post. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un.
Born on December 12, 1950, in Cumilla, Rakib spent his childhood in Feni due to his father’s job transfers. He completed his schooling there before enrolling at Cumilla Victoria College. After graduation, he explored various jobs but found the routine unfulfilling, ultimately embracing writing as his true calling.
His literary journey began with Sheba Prokashoni, where he initially translated "World’s Best Classics". He went on to author over 400 popular titles, including Tarzan, Detective Raju, and Reza-Suja series. However, "Tin Goyenda" remains his most celebrated work, captivating generations of Bangladeshi youth.
Inspired by Robert Arthur’s "Three Investigators," Rakib’s adaptation gave the series a distinctly Bangladeshi essence, transforming it into a cultural cornerstone. The adventures of Kishore, Rabin, and Musa resonated deeply, making him a cherished figure among young readers.
Besides writing under his own name, he used pseudonyms like Shamsuddin Nawab for translating Jules Verne’s works.
Rakib Hasan was not just a detective novelist; he was a beloved icon who shaped the childhood and youth of millions of Bangladeshi readers.
