Professor Syed Manjurul Islam Hospitalized After Massive Heart Attack

Emeritus Professor Syed Manjurul Islam, renowned author, educator, and literary critic, has been admitted to LabAid Hospital in critical condition following a sudden massive heart attack.

On Friday (October 3), he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery, implanting two stents in his heart.

His condition is now stable, and he is under intensive care (ICU) monitoring for at least 48 hours, according to medical staff.

Anyaprokash publisher's CEO Majharul Islam confirmed, “Sir was in the car when he felt unwell. We brought him immediately. Tests confirmed a massive heart attack, and two stents were inserted during urgent surgery.”

Professor Islam taught English at Dhaka University for decades and is celebrated as a storyteller, essayist, translator, and critic. His short stories, essays, and translations are beloved by readers.
