Government Bans Single-Use Plastics at Bangladesh Secretariat from Sunday
- ০৪ অক্টোবর ২০২৫, ১৪:১৭

The government has imposed a complete ban on single-use plastics (SUP) inside the Bangladesh Secretariat starting Sunday, aiming to lead by example in safeguarding the environment and public health.
The Cabinet Division issued directives to all ministries recently.
Compliance will be enforced at all entry points; anyone carrying polythene or SUP items will be denied access.
Paper bags will be provided as alternatives, with awareness boards installed at entrances and key locations, and a monitoring team deployed.
The instructions prohibit SUP within the Secretariat, promoting reusable materials. Plastic bottles, cups, plates, and spoons are banned in meetings and seminars.
Jute, cloth, or reusable bags are encouraged, and eco-friendly alternatives must feature in government procurement.
Officials and employees must halt SUP use in daily work, opting for paper or sustainable packaging in events.
Each ministry will appoint a focal person and form a monitoring committee for oversight.
From October 5, all ministries and departments are urged to cooperate fully in creating a SUP-free Secretariat.
