KU Students Boycott Classes, Exams Until October 9 Over Puja Extension Demand

A section of Khulna University (KU) students has announced a boycott of all classes and exams until October 9, demanding an extension of Durga and Lakshmi Puja holidays and alleging administrative non-cooperation.
The declaration came via the university's "To One" Facebook page on Saturday (October 4).
While the administration has assured no exams until October 9, no decision has been made on suspending classes.
According to KU's academic calendar, the university was closed from September 26 to October 4 for Durga Puja, with reopening scheduled for October 5.
Students argue for an extension, like other universities, noting Lakshmi Puja falls on October 6 (Monday).
Fourth-year student Nur Hasan Shahriar told The Daily Campus, “We’ve repeatedly requested extending the break, but the administration has been unresponsive—ignoring calls. The registrar cited no UGC letter.”
Another student, Musanna Chowdhury, said, “We’ve tried contacting officials since Friday night, but no response. They won’t pick up.”
Tapas Das added, “Lakshmi Puja follows Durga Puja; they could’ve extended by a day or two. Many live far; how will they return on time?”
Sidratul Muntaha noted, “We’ve raised this for three days without reply. DSA sir said he’s coordinated—no exams or assignments until October 9.”
Student Affairs Director Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat responded, “Students called me; I listened and assured administration coordination. UGC hasn’t notified on closures, but no exams until October 9. I can’t decide on classes yet.”
Registrar Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbubur Rahman said, “No UGC notice received; we can’t act independently. I assured no exams but wasn’t informed about class demands.”
The boycott reflects broader student frustrations over holiday policies, especially with ongoing Puja festivities, amid calls for equitable treatment across institutions.
