Dhaka University (DU)'s undergraduate admission test for the 2025-26 academic year could be advanced by at least two months compared to last year, authorities have indicated. Due to the national election scheduled for February 2026 and Ramadan, the relevant parties want to complete the process this year itself. In that case, admission applications could begin in the last week of this month.
Sources at the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee said the results of this year's HSC and equivalent examinations will be published around mid-October. On Sunday, Prof SM Kamal Uddin Haidar, controller of examinations at the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, told The Daily Campus, “The evaluation of answer scripts is underway. We hope to publish the results by 19 October.”
Admission officials at Dhaka University said the authorities will initiate the admission process within a few days of the HSC results publication. A decision on starting applications will be taken within a week of the results. In that case, if the results are published by 19 October, applications for the Dhaka University admission test could begin in the last week of this month. Two teachers involved in the university's admission process said the authorities will take a final decision on the test dates at the Central Admission Committee's meeting scheduled for 7 or 12 October. And a decision on applications will be made after the HSC results are published. If the admission test is advanced by two months this time, the Dhaka University's admission process will return to its normal schedule from the pre-Covid era and the period following the July mass uprising.
A responsible source involved in the university's admission process told The Daily Campus on Tuesday that preliminary discussions have taken place on the admission test. There, everyone suggested initiating efforts to wrap up the test by the last week of November to mid-December. The final decision on this will come at the admission committee's meeting on 7 or 12 October.
An important teacher involved in the admission process said the move to complete the test this year is mainly due to the election. Even though it is earlier than last year, this is essentially DU's normal admission timeline. Typically, the process starts right after the HSC results are published. However, the Covid pandemic and the movement in between disrupted that schedule.
Prof Mostafizur Rahman from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who served as convener of the online admission committee last year, is stepping down from the role, sources said. Taking over the new responsibility is Prof Dr Md Shariful Islam from the Institute of Information Technology.

The source said that if the national election takes place in February, political parties will hold various meetings and gatherings. There will be public congregations in different places. To ensure students can take the exam comfortably without these disruptions, and with Ramadan also starting in between, thoughts are being given to holding the test this year.
Previously, for the 2024-25 academic year, online applications for DU's admission test began on 4 November last year and ran until 25 November. The admission tests started on 3 January this year. The IBA unit test was on 3 January, Fine Arts unit (general knowledge and drawing) on 4 January, Arts, Law and Social Sciences unit on 25 January, Business Education unit on 8 February, and the Science unit test on 15 February.
When asked about this, Prof Dr Md Shariful Islam, the new convener of DU's online admission committee from the Institute of Information Technology, told The Daily Campus, “Everything will be finalised at the Central Admission Committee's meeting in early next month. The application process will begin after the HSC results are published. We plan to complete the entire admission process by December.”
