Imran Khan, a prominent American investor of Bangladeshi origin, met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday, signaling strong interest in investing in Bangladesh’s burgeoning fintech and tech-driven sectors.

Khan, 48, who completed SSC from Government Laboratory High School, Dhaka, and HSC from Dhaka College before moving to the US at 18 for studying at the University of Denver, rose to prominence as an investment banker at JP Morgan and Credit Suisse, steering Alibaba’s record-breaking IPO and boosting Snapchat’s valuation to $728 million in months. Now Chairman of Aleph Holding and Founder-CEO of Proem Asset, his investment firm focuses on high-growth sectors like fintech.

Highlighting Bangladesh as a “frontier market with untapped fintech potential,” Khan praised its young population and growth prospects, announcing plans to visit soon to explore opportunities.

Professor Yunus urged Khan to invest in fintech, healthcare, and social business, emphasizing the favorable regulatory environment since the interim government took office in August 2024.

Yunus also called on top US investors to support social business initiatives, a proposal Khan welcomed.

SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed attended the meeting.

The talks reflect Bangladesh’s rising appeal to global investors post the July 2024 uprising, leveraging Khan’s tech expertise to drive economic growth.
