The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election has been postponed to October 15, as announced by the election commission on Tuesday, marking another delay in the long-awaited polls after 35 years.
Election Commission Member Secretary Professor A.K.M. Ariful Haq Siddiqui confirmed the decision, shifting the voting date from the previously scheduled October 1 (Sunday) to October 15 (Wednesday). The postponement comes amid persistent campus unrest, including student protests and administrative challenges, echoing similar delays in other universities like Rajshahi University, where elections were recently pushed to October 16 to accommodate holidays and demands.
The CUCSU polls, the first since 1990, represent a pivotal moment in reviving student politics at Chittagong University following the 2024 political uprising that ousted the Awami League government. University authorities had initially set the schedule earlier this month, but logistical and security concerns have necessitated adjustments to ensure a fair process.
