Chatra Dal in Talks with Other Student Organizations for Unity in CUCSU Election: Nasir

Rumors are swirling that Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal may forge an alliance with other student organizations for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election. When asked about this, the organization's Central General Secretary, Nasir Uddin Nasir, said, "If unity is needed for the students' interests, we will do it." He confirmed that discussions are ongoing with other student organizations regarding a potential alliance.

On Thursday (September 18), Nasir Uddin Nasir announced the Chatra Dal panel for the CUCSU election at the university’s Intellectual Square. He made these remarks while responding to journalists’ questions.

The Chatra Dal panel includes Sajjad Hossain Hriday, a 2015-16 session student from the Philosophy Department and the branch’s organizational secretary, as the Vice-President (VP) candidate. Md. Shafayat Hossain, a 2016-17 session student from the Sports Science Department and General Secretary of the university’s players’ welfare committee, has been nominated for the General Secretary (GS) post. Ayubur Rahman Taufik, a 2020-21 session student from the History and Culture of Islam Department, has been selected for the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) position.

Other nominees from Chatra Dal for various posts include: Sports and Games Secretary Azharul Islam Biplab, Assistant Sports and Games Secretary Joy Borua, Literature, Culture, and Publication Secretary Md. Mojammel Haq Hriday, Assistant Literature, Culture, and Publication Secretary Shahidul Kaisar, Office Secretary Touhidul Islam Bhuiya, Assistant Office Secretary Shahriar Ullah Fahad, Female Students’ Welfare Secretary Nujhat Jahan, and Assistant Female Students’ Welfare Secretary Shafkat Shafik.

Further nominations are: Science and Information Technology Secretary Md. Ojaier Hossain, Research and Development Secretary Fairuz Sadat Deep, Social Service and Environment Secretary Imam Hasan, Health Secretary Mohammad Abirar Galib, Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary Shahriar Limon, Career Development and International Secretary Shrutiraj Chowdhury, Communication and Accommodation Secretary Md. Sayem Uddin Ahmed, Assistant Communication and Accommodation Secretary Yasin Arafat, Law and Human Rights Secretary Abdullah Al Sakib, and Reading Room and Canteen Secretary Md. Javed.

The six candidates for member positions are Faisal Pranto Babar, Mijan Mia, Nusrat Jahan, SM Tariqul Islam Rimon, and Taif Hossain Imon.

The CUCSU and hall union elections are scheduled for October 12, and Chatra Dal has announced this panel in preparation for the polls.

The deadline for collecting nomination forms for the CUCSU election was Wednesday. Over four consecutive days, 1,162 candidates collected nomination forms to contest 232 posts in the CUCSU and hall union elections. Of these, 528 candidates obtained forms for the 26 CUCSU posts, while 634 candidates took forms for the 206 posts across 14 halls and one hostel.
