Economic Advisor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has clarified that the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US-based company Excelerate Energy is not considering any individual, including former US Ambassador Peter Haas, but is solely driven by the country's needs.
He made these remarks on Tuesday (September 16) while speaking to journalists after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement. The advisor stated that although former Ambassador Peter Haas is associated with the US-based company Excelerate Energy, the decision has been taken not with any individual in mind, but due to the country's demand.
He further informed that to reduce the trade deficit, wheat is being imported from the United States at a higher price, but this will not affect consumers. The allegations of corruption in fertilizer imports will be investigated by the relevant ministry. The economic advisor also mentioned that the government is taking new initiatives to increase employment.
