Banani Police Station arrested two individuals on allegations of defrauding multiple students by promising to supply IELTS question papers and answer sheets, swindling lakhs of taka. The police recovered Tk 8.38 lakh in cash and eight mobile phones from the suspects, identified as Panna Punom Haoladar, alias Keya, and Md. Mamun Khan. The arrests were made during a raid at the Amazon Lily Lake View Residence, a residential hotel in Banani, around 9:30 pm on Saturday, September 6.
According to Banani Police Station sources, the victim, Md. Nadit Hasan Rocky, was enrolled at Queen Global Consultant and IELTS Institute. Through this institute, the accused contacted Rocky and other examinees, offering to provide IELTS question papers and answer sheets to ensure success in the exam. Trusting their promises, Rocky agreed to pay Tk 1.80 lakh. Later, he discovered that the accused had collected between Tk 1 lakh and Tk 3 lakh from each examinee.
On September 5, Rocky, along with his friend Tabibul Islam and other examinees, met the accused at the Amazon Lily Lake View Residence in Banani and paid the agreed amounts. That night, the accused provided several question papers and answer sheets. However, upon reaching the exam center, the victims found that only a few questions matched the provided materials. After the exam, when they returned to the hotel and demanded refunds, the accused refused and issued various threats.
Following a formal complaint, police conducted a thorough investigation using data analysis and technology to locate the suspects. On Saturday night, Banani Police raided the hotel and apprehended the accused. Legal proceedings against them are underway.
