On Sunday, August 31, 2025, students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line to protest for their three-point demands. Starting at 11:30 AM, under the banner of Krishibid Oikya Parishad, the students took position on the railway tracks near Abdul Jabbar Mor, adjacent to the university campus. They halted the Dhaka-bound Haor Express train, disrupting rail communication between Dhaka and Mymensingh.

Mo Sanaullah, a student from the Faculty of Agriculture, stated, “We have repeatedly raised our demands peacefully, but received no response. We were compelled to block the railway today. If our demands are not met, we will announce tougher protest programs.”

The students’ three demands are:

  1. The 10th-grade posts (Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer/Sub-Assistant Scientific Officer or equivalent) in the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), and other research institutions must be reserved exclusively for agriculture graduates.
  2. No promotions to the 9th grade (abolishing BADC’s quota) should be allowed without passing the recruitment examination.
  3. The title “Krishibid” (Agriculturist) must not be used by individuals without a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or agriculture-related fields, and a government notification must be issued to enforce this.
