Tasnia Succumbs After Month-Long Fight, Death Toll at 36

A month after a fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka’s Uttara Diabari, another child has died from burn injuries, bringing the total number of deceased students to 28.

The child, Tasnia Haque, a 15-year-old eighth-grader, passed away at 7:55 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, while under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Tasnia’s hometown was in Madhukhali Upazila, Faridpur District, and she lived with her family in Uttara’s Nalvog area. Her father’s name is Nazmul Haque.

Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, the resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery, confirmed her death, stating that 35% of Tasnia’s body was burned.

The tragedy took place on July 21, 2025, when a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into the Haider Ali Building on the Milestone School and College campus. The death toll from the tragedy has now risen to 36. Many others injured in the crash remain under treatment in hospitals.

According to the Burn Institute, 20 people have died while receiving treatment there. Fourteen patients have recovered and been discharged, while 20 others are still undergoing treatment.

Milestone School and College previously reported that 34 individuals from the institution, including students and teachers, had died in the incident. With Tasnia’s death, this number has increased to 35. The deceased include 28 students, 3 teachers, 3 parents, and 1 caregiver. Including the pilot, the total death toll stands at 36.
