Six officers from the BCS Education Cadre have voluntarily resigned, with five of them reportedly leaving to join other cadres under the 43rd BCS, signaling a notable shift in career paths. The Ministry of Education confirmed the resignations in an office order issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, sparking discussions about retention challenges in the education sector.

According to the order, Md. Redowanul Karim, a lecturer in Islamic History and Culture at Raipur Government College in Lakshmipur, resigned to join the Tax Cadre as an Assistant Commissioner of Taxes. Md. Mazharul Islam, a Political Science lecturer at ASM Abdur Rab Government College in Ramgati, left to become an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Police Cadre. Bidur Kumar Prang, an English lecturer at Naogaon’s Basir Uddin Memorial Cooperative Women’s College, joined the Food Cadre as an Assistant Food Controller. Md. Alauddin Akand, a Mathematics lecturer at Kazipur Government Monsur Ali College in Sirajganj, moved to the Administration Cadre as an Assistant Commissioner. Shyamal Mallik, a Sociology lecturer at Lakshmipur Government College, also joined the Food Cadre as an Assistant Food Controller.

Meanwhile, Md. Yusuf Ali, an English lecturer at Brindaban Government College in Habiganj, resigned to take up a lecturer position in the English Department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, opting for academia over the BCS cadre system.

The resignations, particularly the shift of five officers to other cadres, highlight the allure of administrative, police, and technical roles over teaching positions, amid ongoing concerns about promotion delays and inter-cadre disparities in the BCS Education Cadre, as noted in recent reports. The Education Ministry’s order did not specify reasons beyond the officers’ new appointments, but the trend raises questions about career mobility and job satisfaction in the education sector.
