Jitu Roy, a 2017-18 session student of Begum Rokeya University’s Geography and Environmental Science Department, took his life by hanging from a mango tree branch outside his home in Debiganj, Panchagarh, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, due to a failed romantic relationship. In a three-page suicide note, he wrote, “I love you, Swapna, I’ll keep loving you even after death.”

According to the note, Jitu’s four-year relationship from 2022 to 2025 ended in heartbreak, prompting his decision. He wrote, “We had physical intimacy multiple times, which you can’t deny. Your last words were to forget you, but I couldn’t. I’ll love you even after death.” He added, “I did so much for you, but you proved you didn’t come into my life for happiness. You came to strangle it. You alone are responsible for my death today.”

The university’s Student Adviser, Elias Pramanik, expressed grief and noted, “To address such issues, our Medical Centre has appointed a psychiatrist every Wednesday. We hope students facing depression will seek counseling and find helpful guidance.” Proctor Dr. Mo Ferdous Rahman called the incident “truly tragic,” adding, “We have a psychiatrist visiting every Wednesday for counseling. If needed, we’ll take stronger measures.”
