Bangladesh Television (BTV) has announced the revival of the beloved children’s talent show Notun Kuri after a 19-year hiatus, sparking widespread excitement among viewers. The confirmation came via BTV’s social media page on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, rekindling nostalgic memories for many who grew up watching the program.
Launched in 1966 on Pakistan Television and relaunched post-independence in 1976 under Mostafa Monowar’s production, Notun Kuri became a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s cultural heritage. The show nurtured generations of talent through music, dance, acting, recitation, and other arts until its discontinuation in 2006 due to BTV’s financial constraints, the rise of private channels, and evolving media landscapes. The platform launched notable figures like actress Tarana Halim, Rumana Rashid Ishita, Tarin Jahan, Meher Afroz Shaon, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Zakia Bari Momo, and singers Samina Chowdhury, Hemanti Rakshit Das, and Mahbuba Mahnur Chandni, who excelled in film, drama, and music.
Despite discussions in the 2010s and a planned revival in 2020 thwarted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Notun Kuri is now set to return, promising to unearth new talent from across Bangladesh and enrich the cultural scene. BTV has yet to disclose details on auditions, broadcast schedules, or potential format changes, but the announcement has already stirred nostalgic joy and anticipation among audiences.
