Five Victims of Milestone Crash Identified via DNA Testing

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police has identified five victims of the tragic Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, through DNA testing. The crash, which occurred on Monday (21 July), left several bodies severely disfigured, necessitating DNA profiling for identification. CID’s Forensic Unit Deputy Inspector General Md. Jamsher Ali confirmed the identities on Thursday (24 July) afternoon.

Special Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jasim Uddin Khan from the CID stated that 11 DNA samples were collected from five disfigured bodies or remains over the past two days. Forensic analysis confirmed the identities of five female victims by matching the samples with those provided by their parents. The identified victims are:

Wakia Ferdous Nidhi, daughter of Md. Faruk Hossain and Salma Akter (PM Number: 625), a Class 3 student (Sky section)

Lamia Akter Sonia, daughter of Md. Babul and Majeda (PM Numbers: 626, 631, 632, 633, including 633-M9, 633-M10, 633-M11), mother of Mst Asmaul Husna Zaira (Class 3, Sky section)

Afsana Akter Priya, daughter of Md. Abbas Uddin and Mosa. Minu Akter (PM Numbers: 627, 628), mother of Afsan Ohee (Class 3, Sky section)

Raisa Moni, daughter of Md. Shahabul Sheikh and Mrs. Mim (PM Number: 629), a Class 3 student (Sky section)

Mariam Umme Afia, daughter of Abdul Kadir and Umme Tamima Akter (PM Number: 630), a Class 3 student (Sky section)

On Wednesday (23 July), the CID’s Forensic Department, led by SSP Shampa Yasmin, collected 11 DNA samples from six unidentified bodies or remains stored at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. These were matched against blood samples provided by 11 claimants, including multiple members from some families. While five bodies have been identified, one remains unidentified, with further testing underway.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare urged families of missing persons to provide DNA samples at the CID office in Malibagh to aid identification. The identified bodies will be handed over to their families after completing formalities, while the CID continues efforts to identify the remaining victim.
