Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has announced the specific time for the submission of the much-awaited new pay scale recommendations. He stated that the Pay Commission will formally submit its report to the Chief Adviser tomorrow, Wednesday (January 21), at 5:00 PM. The Adviser shared this information with journalists at the Secretariat today, Tuesday (January 20).

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed also confirmed that he will be personally present during the submission of the report. Zakir Ahmed Khan, the Chairman of the Pay Commission, will lead all members of the commission to the Chief Adviser's office to hand over the final recommendations.

Positive News for Government Employees

The Finance Adviser declined to provide specific details or comments on the contents of the report before it is formally submitted. However, he hinted at positive outcomes, saying, "Government employees will be happy with the new pay scale. Such recommendations will be included in the report." The Pay Commission chief is expected to highlight various aspects of the new salary structure to the Chief Adviser during the meeting.

Change in Submission Plan

According to sources, the original plan of the Ministry of Finance was to have the Pay Commission report submitted first to the Finance Adviser, who would then present it to the Chief Adviser’s office at a later date. However, the plan was revised at the last minute, and the decision was made to submit the recommendations directly to the Chief Adviser’s office.

Background and Implementation

The Pay Commission was formed on July 27 last year with a mandate to determine a new pay structure for government officials and employees after a gap of roughly a decade. Reports suggest that the new scale may involve a partial implementation starting from January 2026, with full implementation beginning in the 2026-27 fiscal year. Currently, around 1.5 million government employees are receiving salaries under the 2015 national pay scale.
