The Ministry of Education and Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee have indicated that the SSC and equivalent examinations for 2026 may be postponed by two to three months due to the 13th National Parliament Election and the holy month of Ramadan. However, no final decision has been taken yet regarding the exact schedule.

According to sources, the examinations are likely to be held in late April or early May 2026. A final decision, including the routine, is expected soon after a meeting of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.

Professor Dr Khondoker Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, told The Daily Campus on Sunday (4 January): “The schedule for the SSC examinations has not yet been determined. The decision comes from the ministry. No meeting on this matter has been held yet.”

Relevant officials explained that the 13th National Parliament Election is scheduled for 12 February 2026. Under normal circumstances, SSC examinations also begin in February. However, many schools serve as election centres, making it impossible to hold the exams in February. Additionally, Ramadan begins in the same month. As a result, the SSC examinations are likely to be delayed. There are precedents of SSC and equivalent examinations being postponed for various reasons in the past.

It is learnt that until 2020, SSC and equivalent examinations used to start in the first week of February and conclude by March. However, the pattern was disrupted in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. That year, the examinations began on 14 November because of Covid-19.

In 2023, the examinations started on 30 April. In 2022, they began on 15 September. The most recent SSC examinations in 2024 started on 15 February, returning to the normal schedule. However, due to the 2026 election and the holy month of Ramadan, officials believe the 2026 SSC examinations may be delayed by at least three months compared to the usual time.
