After two days of intense discussions and hard bargaining on seat-sharing, the eight political parties of the simultaneous movement have finally reached an agreement. At the same time, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led eight-party alliance is being joined by three more parties.

Sources said that Jamaat has decided to concede 99 seats to these parties as part of the understanding. However, the final decision on 30 seats is yet to be taken. These 30 seats will be decided through internal surveys.

In this regard, a joint emergency press conference of Jamaat and the eight political parties of the simultaneous movement has been called for this Sunday (28 December) afternoon to provide detailed information on the matter.

On behalf of the eight political parties of the simultaneous movement, Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Hamidur Rahman Azad said that a joint emergency press conference of the movement parties will be held today (28 December) at 4:30 pm at Abdus Salam Hall on the third floor of the National Press Club. The press conference will elaborate on seat-sharing and the recent political situation.

When asked further about the matter, Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Maulana Abdul Halim said that three more political parties are joining the Jamaat-led simultaneous movement alliance. The parties are Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), AB Party, and National Citizens Party (NCP).

He said that with the addition of the three new parties, the seat-sharing structure has also changed. The 30 seats earlier under discussion for NCP are no longer in consideration. According to the revised understanding, NCP is set to receive 20 to 25 seats. Meanwhile, a total of five seats have been allocated for the newly joined LDP and AB Party.

A senior leader of Jamaat said that the seat distribution under the agreement, future programmes of the movement, and the outline of political unity will be formally announced at today’s press conference.
