BNP nominates Nur and Rashed for upcoming national election

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has nominated Nurul Haque Nur, convener of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Rashed Khan, general secretary of the same party, for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at BNP’s election office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday (24 December).

Nurul Haque Nur has been nominated for Patuakhali-3 constituency, while Rashed Khan has received nomination for Jhenidah-4 constituency.

With this, BNP has allocated a total of seven seats to allied and coalition partners, where the party will not field any candidates and will extend full support to the nominees of the allied parties.

The seats allocated are:

  • Dhaka-12: Saiful Haque (Revolutionary Workers Party)
  • Bogra-2: Mahmudur Rahman Manna (Nagorik Oikya)
  • Patuakhali-3: Nurul Haque Nur (Gono Odhikar Parishad)
  • Jhenidah-4: Rashed Khan (Gono Odhikar Parishad)
  • Brahmanbaria-6: Zonayed Saki (Ganasanghati Andolon)
  • Pirojpur-1: Mostafa Jamal Haider (Jatiya Party – Kazi Zafar faction)
  • Jashore-5: Mufti Rashid Bin Wakkas (Islami Andolan Bangladesh)

Earlier, confirming his nomination, Rashed Khan told media that discussions took place at BNP’s Gulshan office. The meeting was attended by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Khulna divisional acting organising secretary Anindya Islam Amit, Jhenidah district BNP president MA Majid, and other senior leaders.

He said he was informed that he would be fielded as BNP’s candidate from Jhenidah-4. Rashed added that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will hold a public rally in Jhenidah-4 before the election, and under this condition, he agreed to contest from the constituency. BNP will soon make the nomination official.

Rashed Khan hails from Muraridah village in Jhenidah Sadar upazila. He currently serves as the central general secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad.
