Motalib Shikder, Khulna divisional chief of National Citizen Party (NCP) and central organiser of NCP Workers Force, was shot earlier today in Sonadanga's Sabujbag area of Khulna city.
The attack reportedly occurred publicly in broad daylight, with witnesses describing it as similar to the earlier shooting of Osman Hadi.
Dr Mahmuda Mitu shared the information in a post on her official Facebook profile, and a Khulna district NCP leader Sajidul Islam Bappi confirmed this incident to The Daily Campus.
According to NCP leader Bappi, the attack was carried out in a manner similar to the shooting of Osman Hadi, with assailants arriving on two motorcycles. Bappi further said Shikder had been actively vocal against newly formed kishor (teenage) gangs in Khulna and had received death threats as a result.
Shikder has been rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition, but a CT scan could not be performed. He now has been transferred to a private hospital for CT scan and further examination. Similar to the attack on Osman Hadi, Shikder, a senior NCP leader, was shot by assailants who then fled the scene.
Deputy Police Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police, Md. Tajul Islam, said the incident could be linked to internal conflicts. He also noted that the area around the attack site has a high prevalence of crimes involving women and drugs.
Details on the motive, assailants, or official police confirmation are not yet available from mainstream sources.
The situation is developing, and further updates will follow as reliable information emerges.
