The SSC and equivalent examinations for 2026 are likely to be postponed by two to three months. The examinations may be held towards the end of April or beginning of May next year. It is learnt from Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee sources that the routine along with everything may be finalised within a week.

Concerned persons said the thirteenth national parliament election will be held on 12 February 2026. Normally, SSC examinations also start in this month. However, various schools serve as centres during elections. As a result, it will not be possible to hold the examinations in February. Consequently, SSC examinations may be postponed. There are precedents of postponing SSC and equivalent examinations for various reasons earlier.

Until 2020, SSC or equivalent examinations started in the first week of February and ended within March. However, in 2021, this trend was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to Covid, examinations were held from 14 November that year.

In 2023, examinations started on 30 April. Earlier, 2022 examinations started on 15 September. Most recently, 2024 SSC examinations started on 15 February. Through this, this public examination returned to normal time. However, due to the 2026 election, SSC examinations are again being postponed by at least three months compared to the previous year.

In this regard, Convener of Inter-Education Board Examination Controller Committee and Examination Controller of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Professor S M Kamal Uddin Haider told The Daily Campus, ‘Board meeting is scheduled this week or next week. Decision on examination routine and date will be taken in the meeting. This year's examinations may start towards the end of April or end of May.’
