Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan has said Dhaka University has embraced its son. The mother has got her son back again. We pray for him.
He said this in a brief speech after completion of burial activities of martyr Sharif Osman Hadi this afternoon today Saturday (20 December) at the premises of the university's Central Jame Mosque.
Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan said Dhaka University considers martyr Hadi's family as part of its extended family. We believe his family is part of Dhaka University's larger family from today. We are grateful for the cooperation they have shown with patience and courage in this difficult time.
He said the graveyard adjacent to Dhaka University's Central Jame Mosque is not just a burial place, it is a symbol of paying the highest honour from the university.
'You know, the mausoleum of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is here. Several sons of Dhaka University family who sacrificed their lives in the great Liberation War are also laid to rest here. By burying martyr Hadi at this place, Dhaka University has paid respect to its son.'
The VC said an emergency meeting of the university's highest policy-making body Syndicate was held at 10:30 pm on Friday (19 December) regarding Hadi's burial. In that meeting, it was unanimously decided with family consent martyr Hadi will be buried in this graveyard. In the Syndicate meeting, tribute was paid to him with emotion and deep sympathy.
