Several prominent young leaders of Bangladesh’s July 2024 mass uprising have been formally invited by the historic Oxford Union to speak at an international panel discussion titled “Bangladesh’s July Revolution”, scheduled for the first week of January 2026.

The invitees include National Citizens Party (NCP) southern region chief organiser Hasnat Abdullah, United People’s Bangladesh convener Ali Ahsan Zonaed, DUCSU Vice-President Abu Sadiq Kayem, and DUCSU AGS Mahiuddin Khan.

In separate letters signed by Oxford Union Society President Musa Hiraj, the young leaders have been recognised for their “leadership and influential role” in the 2024 anti-quota movement and the subsequent student-people’s uprising that led to the fall of the Awami League government.

The invitation letters state that their experience and analysis as young political organisers are being regarded with importance at the international level.

The panel is being jointly organised by the Oxford Union and the Oxford Bangla Society. Besides participating in the main discussion, the Bangladeshi speakers will hold interactions with Oxford students and researchers on policy, politics, and contemporary issues.

The Oxford Union has taken full responsibility for coordinating the entire visit and local arrangements.

Confirming the invitation on Thursday (4 December), DUCSU VP Abu Sadiq Kayem told The Daily Campus, “We have each received separate invitation letters. Initially we know the names of a few who have been invited. Those of us who have received it will sit together soon to finalise details.”

United People’s Bangladesh convener Ali Ahsan Zonaed also confirmed receiving the invitation for the Oxford Union panel.
