The schedule for the 13th national parliament election may be announced in the second week of December, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal's successor CEC AMM Nasir Uddin said on Saturday (29 November).
Speaking to reporters after observing a mock voting exercise at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls' High School in the capital, Nasir Uddin said the Election Commission (EC) wanted to see how the voting environment should be maintained for an ideal election.
"People haven't seen the voting process for the last 15 years. This mock voting is to demonstrate the process and familiarise everyone," he added. The exercise also tested the time required for casting votes in two ballots simultaneously.
On the referendum issue, Nasir Uddin said: "No full-scale campaign has started yet on the referendum. The government and EC will jointly launch extensive campaigns, and preparations are underway accordingly."
He further noted: "Law and order in the country was never good. But it has improved significantly compared to before. Police, Ansar, BGB, RAB and the army are actively working. Incidents of theft and snatching are isolated. The situation will improve further."
