Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) will organise its maiden convocation on 27 December 2025 (Saturday) at the university campus in Tejgaon, marking a historic milestone in its academic journey.

The ceremony will be chaired by Prof Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Adviser for Education Ministry.

BUTEX began its journey as an independent university in 2010 after being separated from Dhaka University’s College of Textile Engineering and Technology. Registration for the convocation started during the tenure of second Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Masud Ahmed. Although the date was fixed under fourth VC Prof Dr Shah Alimuzzaman, political unrest and other reasons delayed the event. Finally, under the current Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Zulhash Uddin, the convocation has been confirmed.

Graduates from the 32nd to 44th batches who have registered will receive their degrees at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Prof Dr Rasheda Begum Dina said: “After a long wait, we are finally able to hold BUTEX’s first convocation. Several committees have been formed to ensure a smooth and dignified event. We are very optimistic about its success.”

A preparatory meeting with registered graduates will be held on 29 November (Saturday) at the university conference room, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor.

Students expressed excitement mixed with relief. Md Atikur Rahman Atik (41st batch, Textile Fashion and Design) said: “Being part of the first convocation is undoubtedly joyful, but after multiple postponements many still had doubts. We hope the administration organises a memorable event.”

Sakib Hasan (44th batch, Fabric Engineering) added: “I am extremely happy that this long-awaited convocation is finally happening. I wish the organisers all success in making it a beautiful ceremony.”
