RU ‘C’ Unit admission test on 16 Jan: All you need to know

Rajshahi University (RU) has finalised details for the ‘C’ Unit admission test under the 2025-26 academic session, mainly for science students though humanities and business studies students can also apply. A total of 40 seats are reserved for non-science background applicants. The test will be held on 16 January next.

At a glance
‘C’ Unit comprises seven faculties with 26 departments in total: nine under Science Faculty, six under Life and Earth Science Faculty, two under Agriculture Faculty, five under Engineering Faculty, two under Geosciences Faculty, one under Fisheries Faculty and one under Veterinary and Animal Sciences Faculty.
Seat numbers
This year 20 more seats have been added, bringing the total to 1,536. Of them, 1,496 seats are for science background students (last year 1,460) and 40 seats for non-science students (last year 56). Non-science applicants can only compete for Physical Education and Sports Science (10 seats), Geography and Environmental Studies (10 seats) and Psychology (20 seats) departments.
Application date and fee
Application starts on 20 November at 12 noon. Final application fee is fixed at Tk 1,320 (including service charge).
Exam pattern
The test will be MCQ type. There will be 80 questions carrying 100 marks (1.25 marks each) and duration is one hour. For each wrong answer, 0.20 marks will be deducted (five wrong answers mean deduction of one mark). Minimum passing mark is 40.
Exam system
The test will be held in two streams: 1. Science background 2. Non-science (humanities and business studies).
1. Science stream
Question paper will have two parts: (a) compulsory and (b) optional. Compulsory part: Physics 25 questions, Chemistry 25 questions and ICT 5 questions. Optional part: Mathematics/Biology/Both Mathematics+Biology 25/25/13+12 questions. Total 80 questions, each worth 1.25 marks, total 100 marks.
Eligibility conditions for science students
(a) Those who answer Biology+Mathematics along with compulsory part will be considered for all departments under ‘C’ Unit.
(b) Those who answer only Mathematics will be eligible only for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Population Science and Human Resource Development, Applied Mathematics, Physical Education and Sports Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, Geology and Mining, Psychology, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering departments.
(c) Those who answer only Biology will be eligible only for Pharmacy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physical Education and Sports Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, Psychology, Botany, Zoology, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Medical Psychology, Microbiology, Agronomy and Agricultural Extension, Fisheries, Veterinary and Animal Sciences, and Crop Science and Technology departments.
2. Non-science stream
25 questions each from Bangla and English and 30 questions from General Knowledge/Geography/Psychology. Each question carries 1.25 marks, total 100 marks.
Department-wise seats Science Faculty (9 departments, total 625 seats, 15 seats increased this year): Mathematics 100, Physics 70, Chemistry 100, Statistics 80, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 50, Pharmacy 50, Population Science and HRD 65, Applied Mathematics 75, Physical Education and Sports Science 35.
Life and Earth Science Faculty (6 departments, total 305 seats, 5 seats increased): Psychology 60, Botany 70, Zoology 80, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology 30, Medical Psychology 35, Microbiology 30.
Agriculture Faculty (2 departments): Agronomy and Agricultural Extension 60, Crop Science and Technology 60.
Engineering Faculty (5 departments, total 251 seats): Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 70, Computer Science and Engineering 40, Information and Communication Engineering 46, Materials Science and Engineering 50, Electrical and Electronic Engineering 45.
Geosciences Faculty (2 departments, total 135 seats, 5 seats increased): Geography and Environmental Studies 75, Geology and Mining 65.
Fisheries Faculty: Fisheries 50 seats.
Veterinary and Animal Sciences Faculty: Veterinary and Animal Sciences 50 seats.
Exam date and shifts
The ‘C’ Unit test will be held on 16 January in two shifts: first shift 11:00 am to 12:00 noon and second shift 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be no selection test this year.
Exam centres
The test will be held simultaneously on the campuses of public universities in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rangpur and Barishal divisions.
Merit list
No marks will be added from SSC or HSC results. Merit position will be determined solely on the 100-mark admission test score. Detailed information is available on the university website.
